At dawn beside an empty resort pool Rassie arrives with an armful of towels and finds Oom Kallie lying on a lounger, with a towel already draped over every other lounger.

Mid-morning the pool is busy. Rassie and Oom Kallie lie on neighbouring loungers, not looking at each other, as Tannie Marietjie arrives with three grandchildren carrying pool toys.
Tannie Marietjie: Where must the children sit?
